Galería Karen Huber

Galería Karen Huber presents Othiana Roffiel's solo exhbition, It Takes a Lot of Stuff for a Flower to Grow.

Othiana Roffiel presents an entirely new series conceived during her long stay since the beginning of the pandemic in the surroundings of Nepantla, State of Mexico. There she discovered spaces and states of time foreign to her routine; these fostered an interest in pictorial questions–already present in her practice and her position as a female painter, which allowed her to approach the relationships between art and nature.

This closeness became the beginning of a transit between the studio and the outside land, giving birth to Through the Cactus (the exhibition includes part of these pieces). In the project, the pictorial space opens up to a botanic hue, creating a conversation between three bodies: the artist, the painting and the cactus. When translating these feelings and sensitivities, Roffiel highlights the role of nature in the learning process of coexisting with the tangible and the intangible.

Amongst the textures and atmospheres, we then start to discern that the cacti have anthropomorphic features. In this exhibition the work exchanges looks with the spectator; it becomes a spatial and material essay that accounts for a contemplation in movement.
