The Darkest Hour Is Just Before Dawn

Event

-> Mar 28 2024

The Ant Project presents the installation The Time is Darkest Just Before Dawn, by Ecuadorian artist Edison Peñafiel, ongoing resident at their space in Coyoacán, CDMX. Peñafiel's work directly alludes to humanity lost or found in extreme states caused by forced displacement, oppression or war, where the shadow of inhumanity shelters the birth of new hopes symbolized in flowers.

The Darkest Hour Is Just Before Dawn pays homage to resistance and hope amidst adversity. In a world marked by the abuse of power and violence, people cling to their roots, defying oppression. The work portrays the abuse of power as a militarized wall, with sentinels usurping and delineating geographies, while bodies transmute and signs of life flourish as a struggle for survival. The scattered fragments on the inhospitable ground and the flora bear witness to the human spirit. This installation focuses on resistance, amplifying the voices of those who refuse to be silenced by history.
