Galería Enrique Guerrero

Enrique Guerrero Gallery presents the work of Mauro Piva.

The works that make up the exhibition have as their starting point the figure of Frida Kahlo, as well as the colors, textures and atmosphere of Mexico. It is a tribute to this country where she lived for 3 years.

The exhibition is made up of three groups of works. The first is made up of still lifes, in which Piva used the Mexican painter's flower head arrangements as a reference, painting them as if they were flower arrangements that imitate the atmosphere of Mexico. The second group is made up of paintings of plants, which are actually the backgrounds of some of Frida Kahlo's self-portraits. The backgrounds are reproduced, completing the spaces where the body and animals were originally, leaving only a small detail of the flora present in the selected self-portraits. In these two groups, secondary elements are resignified, ceasing to be coadjuvants to be the protagonists in the works. The third group are paintings that start from the phrase "I paint flowers, so they don't die" by Kahlo, where the artist reproduces canvases that represent Mexican chopped paper and that together are composed in a sentence that expresses admiration, respect and affection. de Piva for the work of the Mexican artist.
